SINGAPORE: More than 60 people from 20 needy families in Singapore will receive free meals for a whole year, thanks to donations from the public, doctors and staff from Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
Through the two hospitals’ “Tingkat: Gift of Warmth” donation drive, more than S$56,000 was raised for the Hope Centre, which serves needy residents in Kampong Glam.
Besides providing meals for the beneficiaries for the entire year, a portion of the funds will also be used to buy home medical equipment, like blood glucose monitoring kits and blood pressure monitors for the centre. This will benefit needy residents under its care.
Meanwhile, M Ravi, the lawyer for Roy Ngerng who was sued by PM Lee for slander has gotten a windfall of $70,000 from the donations received from supporters.
“This is what donations should be all about,” said Jeff Tan 77, a retiree with a substantial CPF balance.
“Donations should be given to the less fortunate and not to enrich your lawyer,” he added.
