SINGAPORE: Crowds showed up on Friday at Hotpot Culture, the Marina Square eatery where a dead rat was found in a buffet dish last month.
The restaurant held an open house on Friday with free food for customers, three days after the National Environment Agency (NEA) lifted its suspension of the restaurant’s licence.
The management of Hotpot Culture said the free food was given to “show its sincerity” to the public.
Owner Lim Choon Kok said he has lost about S$60,000 since the incident on Jan 9. “But the money is one thing, the stress and embarrassment is another.”
One of the customers who were queueing said, “Got rats meh? Sorry I never read the newspaper.”
“They say its free so it must be good.”
