SINGAPORE – A businessman was charged in court on Thursday for strangling to death his 67-year-old father with his bare hands at a house in West Coast on Tuesday.
No plea was taken from Mark Tan Peng Liat, 29, who allegedly caused the death of Mr Tan Kok Keng at his semi-detached house in West Coast Rise at 5.26pm on Tuesday.
It was reported that he allegedly strangled his father after an argument which turned violent.
For reasons unknown, the father and son started quarrelling heatedly for about 15 minutes.
It escalated out of control when Mark reportedly stretched out his hands to grab his father’s neck and did not let go, strangling him.
The older man fell onto the ground and lost consciousness after the attack.
It is reported that the younger Tan went into a state of panic when his father passed out. He accompanied his father to hospital when an ambulance arrived.
When the older Mr Tan could not be revived and was pronounced dead, Mark Tan was arrested on the spot.
