Police conducted island-wide operations on Tuesday at multiple locations around Singapore – including Geylang, Hougang, Bishan and Jurong West, resulting in the arrests. Cash amounting to about S$270,000 as well as computers and mobile phones were seized. Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate had advertised sexual services online, according to police.

Head of the Specialised Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department, Superintendent of Police Lawrence Eng said: “Online vice operators who assume that they can hide through the anonymity offered by the internet to commit criminal offences should think twice. We will find them and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”

Four of the suspects, a 21-year-old woman and three men aged between 27 and 51, will be charged in court on Thursday. Investigations against the remaining suspects are ongoing.

If found guilty, they could face a jail term of not more than five years, and a fine not exceeding S$10,000.

“This is really bad for me,” said Gregory Tan, 45 a bachelor.

“I stay in Boon Lay and it is difficult for me to go to Geylang everytime I got the urge.”

“I got gout so I cannot walk so much. The government should consider the sexual needs of people like me.”
