Don’t drop the soap….
SINGAPORE: An engineer who sexually assaulted teen boys was on Friday (Mar 20) sentenced to 30 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane, in what Justice Woo Bih Li described as the “worst case of sexual offending against pubescent boys”.
Yap Weng Wah, a 31-year-old Malaysian who moved to Singapore in 2009, sexually groomed at least 31 boys aged 11 to 15 after befriending them online. He either sodomised or had oral sex with 30 of the boys at his rented flats, in hotels or at swimming complexes. Yap persuaded the other victim to send him a video capturing himself performing a lewd act.
These acts happened between November 2009 and June 2012.
His deeds came to light when the sister of one of the victims checked her brother’s mobile phone.
Yap was arrested in September 2012 and more than 2,000 videos of his sexual acts were found on his laptop and phone, including details of the victims’ name and age. On Jan 16, he pleaded guilty and was convicted of 12 charges of sexual penetration of a minor.
In sentencing, Justice Woo noted that Yap had preyed on a large number of victims in a period of two-and-a-half years and had used the Internet to widen his reach.
