SINGAPORE: A 39-year-old woman was fined S$34,500 for manpower offences relating to her Indonesian foreign domestic worker (FDW), the Manpower Ministry said on Wednesday (Apr 22).
Tang Lee Sung, a Singaporean, was convicted of 19 counts for failing to pay S$5,778 in wages to her FDW within seven days after the last day of each monthly salary period between Nov 11, 2011 and May 12, 2013.
The Indonesian worker was supposed to be paid S$420 each month, the Manpower Ministry said in a news release.
She was also convicted of illegally deploying her FDW to work at a location other than the residential address stated in her Work Permit card. Tang allowed her mother to bring the worker to Johor Bahru, Malaysia to care for the latter’s cats at a rented house almost daily, it added.
“Some people should be banned from having maids,” said Joyah Fadil, 43, a teacher.
