So Can We Get Along Now? – High Court rejects application for independent accountants in AHPETC

Ok la…enough already…

The long-drawn AHPETC saga which has put many people to sleep, has almost reached its climax, that is until the government decides to continue with their prodding into WP’s affairs.

The High Court has rejected the Government’s application to have independent accountants at Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC). Justice Quentin Loh said the Ministry of National Development (MND) did not establish legal basis for its application.

In layman terms, the Judge is saying : `Hey look! You have already given the money. It is now theirs and they can jolly well do whatever they please with it.”

However, the Judge also chides AHPETC for ignoring their duties and obligations and “If AHPETC were a managing corporation … I have no doubt that AHPETC or its officers will be exposed to the possibility of civil liability … or in an extreme scenario, criminal liability.”
