PAP – More Of The Same

So the ruling PAP’s marketing brochure is out. 88-pages long. That’s a lot of selling.

And the full contingent of candidates have also been introduced. Clean cut and good looking. Except for a few of course.

But jokes aside. If you pore through the manifesto, there is nothing new on offer. No major policy changes. No new innovative ideas. A few tweaks here and there. All wrapped up in beautiful language and promises.

It reminds me of the announcement made by the pilot of commercial airlines.

Ladies and gentlemen. We are now cruising at 30,000 feet and we will arrive at our destination in due time and the weather is expected to be bright and sunny”

Well you know the drill.

And the candidates. Clean looking they may be in their all spiffy whites. But they looked uninspiring, bland and boring. Like members of a cult group.

And that’s what they gonna be. Everyone speaking the same language. Explaining the same things. Repeating the same mantra.

Boring.

So between the manifesto and the line-up of candidates, these are my impressions:

If you want a clean government, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government whose definition of success is GDP growth, surplus and profits, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who is willing to sell the soul and character of the country for the sake of growth, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who allows the sale of poisons (tobacco) for the sake of revenue, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who is willing to cramp the island with immigrants for the sake of growth, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who pampers the immigrants more than you, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who has broken its promise to return our CPF at 55, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who has broken its promise to provide avordable housing, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who has broken its promise to provide affordable healthcare, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who is so disconnected with the people that it sees nothing wrong with old folks collecting cardboards, vote for the PAP.

If you want your children to struggle to compete with the elites, vote for the PAP.

If you want a government who has to pay you to breed instead of you breeding because you think that this is a good country to raise a family, vote for the PAP.

In short, if you want a government who is devoid of ideas on how to balance economic growth with its social obligations, vote for the PAP.

But you know what?

Do you have a choice?
