When during a rally on Saturday night, WP chief Low Thia Khiang charged that the PAP had handed over the Punggol East town council to WP after the by-election with a deficit, holding up a printout of the town council’s accounts for April 2013 saying that the accounts showed a deficit of more than S$280,000, we knew that there will blood somehow.
And now DPM Teo has hit back by claiming that a total of S$22.5 million in cash was handed over to Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) after the Workers’ Party (WP) won the 2013 Punggol East by-election.
The sum, handed over by the Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council, includes sinking funds and project funds, he said.
“Mr Low very dramatically showed one page of the accounts – there are 20 over pages in the accounts,” Mr Teo said. “If you look at the whole set, we were very careful to hand over everything that was due to our residents here. We wanted to do right for them.”
The WP did not raise any issues during the handover, Mr Teo added.
“After we handed over all these accounts – S$22.5 million in cash – AHPETC has never submitted an unqualified set of accounts. So, the real question is … I hope this cash is properly accounted for by them.”
That is a nicer way of saying: `Dude! You are so screwed!”
